Among the very first was Mr.Viren J.Shah, the then Governor of West Bengal, who inaugurated Ashari in January 2001. It was most unfortunate that Mr. Jyoti Basu was unable to come due to poor health, but he did come some years later. So did Mr.Biman Bose, Mr. Subhas Chakrabarti, and Mrs. Bilasibala Sahis, all eminent politicians in their own right. |

| Mr. & Mrs. Gopalkrishna Gandhi, Governor of West Bengal inaugurated the hydraulic operation table for large animals, donated by the Bombay Gow-Rakshak Trust. It is thanks to their generosity that we have been able to keep the cattle care program going. |

| Among religious preachers, Ashari has been blessed by the visits of many Mahatmas. Murari Bapu graced Ashari with a visit on the event of the inauguration. Swami Tejomayanandji, Swami Girishanandji, Premaji Pandurang, Krishnaji Mishra, Pramodaben Chitrabhanu, Swami Advatanandji, Swami Bhagwatanandji are among those who came to bless the activity and encourage us with their words. Fr.Noel Sen is another man of God who not only came, but helped in many ways. |

| We had an ambitious program of involving school children and introducing this cause to youngsters before their tender minds became hardened by the material considerations of a competitive society. Loreto School Sealdah, Kislay, Singhania Academy and some other schools brought their children. It is always a joy to see how sensitive children are to suffering animals, even when they are afraid of being bitten. One young volunteer, studying in the U.K. raised funds at her school – Bullers Wood School in Kent! |

We have also been supported by several women’s groups – a special thanks to Mrs.Hemantika Puri for that – and influential clubs like the Lions and the Rotary. Amongst the foreign groups who have extended their support, Kim Bartlett and Merritt Clifton of Animal People were among the first.
